How to get to Costa Rica & Samara BeachWe recommend flying into Liberia's new international airport which is about a 2 hour drive to Samara. Check out American, Continental and Delta airlines for flights. You can reserve a car at the airport. We recommend you doing this in advance so that your car is ready upon arrival.
You can fly into San Jose, however, the drive to Samara takes about 5 hours and is very windy and crowded for the first two thirds of the trip. Once you cross the Taiwan Friendship Bridge (which replaced the old ferry) the road opens up and is less crowded. However, the entire trip is single lane traffic. If you do fly into San Jose, a great way to get to Samara is to take a domestic flight. There is a small airport at Carillo about 5k from Samara. Small commercial planes fly in 2 to 3 times a day via Sansa Airlines. You can also check out NatureAir. The flight takes about 35 minutes. We will provide pick-up and drop-off at your hotel. If you think you will want a car, let us know in advance and we will try to reserve you one. For now, there is only one car rental agency in Samara and availability is limited. Pick up and drop off from Liberia International airport is also available for an additional fee of US $200.00. Getting to Samara By Plane
Both Sansa and Nature Air airlines fly daily between San Jose and the Samara / Carrillo airport. Sansa flies between San Jose's Juan Santa Maria Airport and Samara/Carrillo every day. Below you'll find detailed flight information for Sansa Airlines. Low Season

Sansa (tel. +506 221-9414; http://www.flysansa.com/) has begun offering an in-country "air pass," at $199 for 1 week and $249 for 2 weeks. Theoretically these allow for unlimited flights inside Costa Rica, although limited seating, overbooking, and preference given to full-price ticket buyers might make these air passes a slightly less appealing bargain.
